U12 Ski Program at Mountain Creek

For Kids Ages 10-11

The U12 program is where young athletes move from “learning to race” into training to compete. Skiers refine advanced techniques, gain tactical awareness, and begin experiencing real competition in slalom (SL) and giant slalom (GS) races.

The U12 program turns skilled skiers into competitive athletes, building the foundation for higher-level racing in the years ahead.

What Kids Learn

  • High-Level Ski Technique – Carving clean arcs, dynamic edge changes, pressure control, and body separation.
  • Race-Specific Skills – SL and GS fundamentals, course inspection, line strategy, timing, and gate clearing.
  • Challenging Terrain – Training on steep pitches, icy surfaces, variable snow, and racecourses.
  • Competition Readiness – Pre-race routines, mental focus, nutrition, and managing performance nerves.
  • Athlete Mindset – Sportsmanship, resilience, teamwork, and accountability.

Program Goals

  • Build a solid technical and tactical foundation for future competitive skiing.
  • Introduce structured off-snow conditioning to improve strength, balance, and agility.
  • Develop consistency in race execution across different course sets and conditions.
  • Foster independence: managing equipment, warm-ups, and race preparation.
  • Prepare athletes for U14 racing, where competition becomes more intense and travel increases.
