2021 Season Details

Training Access at MC for U8-U19 athletes:

No Events – Training Only.
In State Races – To take place at Winter 4 Kids and Mt. Peter. More to come.
Training to occur on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights from 6pm – 8pm.
Training to occur on Saturday and Sundays from 8am – 12pm.
MC Racing active team members to be granted access prior to public access to set fence/training course for day.
During week night training, Lift operations will not be extended to accommodate longer training sessions, all team members and racers will need to load final chair prior to 8pm closing of Bear Peak Express.
Lift queues will be set as per SOP and all team members and racers to carry valid pass and access lift thru public access point.
Locker room/basement – at this time communication is to boot up in car or follow COVID related guidelines regarding lodge access for public.
If restrictions permit a conversation may occur closer to season start regarding access to South basement/locker area.
Racers may access any terrain to “free ski” within skier responsibility code.
Program length – 10 weeks (weather permitting) 1/9/21 – 3/14/21.
Program cost – $699.99 plus muni fee.
MCSRC/USSS/NJSRA membership costs are not included in this price.
Sign up ends 1/1/21 – no late/pro-rated sign-ups will be considered.
Racer discounted season passes $249 will be for ATHLETES ONLY. This discount will not be offered to family members as in past years.

The Board would like to thank everyone that took the time out of their schedules to participate in the Annual Meeting for the Mountain Creek Ski Racing Club. We had 21 members join us for our first ever Virtual Zoom meeting.

Special Note from MCSRC

We understand that the past year has been very different than anything else than we have ever seen. We had last season cut short and post season events abruptly cancelled.We have all been on lock down, quarantine and some of us were and still are working from home.Many of our children are learning virtually or in some sort of hybrid version of school. It has been a year of challenges for our athletes with many other sports cancelled or postponed in the wake of Covid-19. Even our own race program was in danger of being cancelled. If it was not for so many of you this season would not be happening.With that said The Board would like to say THANK YOU!

Thank you to Jorgen Brich, Tracy Nelson and John Pierce for all of your efforts and time in working to save our program. Without you we would not be together for this season.

Thank you to Mountain Creek Management for hearing us and allowing the program to move forward this season.

Thank you to the NJSRA, Winter for Kids and Mount Peter for working with us to try and find a solution for our program in the wake of cancellation.

Thank you to our previous Board of Directors:
Selena Schneider, Kathryn McKeever, Dawn Frost, Ben Hunnicutt, Craig Blake, Kathleen Caywood, Josh Hankes, Matt Fowler, Tom Ko for all that you did last season for our members.

Thank you to Tracy Nelson one of the best Race Directors out there. You will be missed!

Thank you to the great Tanya Schulz-Patrie for all of the hard work that you had done as our Race Administrator. We hope to have you back next season.

Thank you to ALL of our incredible coaches for your dedication and the endless hours that you put in making our athletes the best possible version of themselves that they can be. We will miss those that have moved on this season and wish them the best in their new adventures and we welcome those who will be here.

Thank you to an amazing hill crew for everything that you have done especially when dealing with the NJ snow (or lack there of) when securing our courses. We hope to have you all back again when races resume at Mountain Creek.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, whether it be on race day, during events or just around the Race Room.

Finally, thank you to all of you, our members, for your patience and understanding while we worked thru a way to have this season happen in a safe and fun way for all of our athletes. We look forward to seeing all of you soon on the mountain!

Sign Up Deadline – Dec 18th

The season is fast approaching and there are still many details to be worked out. In order to create the best staffing of our incredible coaches we need a proper count of athletes. Therefore, it is imperative that all athletes are signed up as soon as possible. We are asking that you please sign your athlete up no later than Dec. 18th.

The Racer Registration Form has been activated by Mountain Creek Resort. This includes Athlete Season Passes.

U8 Racing Criteria

The U8 and other programs will be held at the Mountain Creek South area. The terrain is intermediate and advanced. In addition, Mountain Creek South terrain includes jumps, rollers and metal freestyle features used by the general public in some areas. U8 skiers should be comfortable negotiating areas which have these features. U8 skiers will typically not use these areas, however, to move about the hill to access training slopes, during warm up runs and for variety of terrain U8 skiers will be exposed to various areas of South.

Need NorAm Volunteers

Winter4Kids at the National Winter Activity Center, in partnership with U.S. Ski & Snowboard and the International Federation of Skiing (FIS), has been selected to host the first ever NorAm Cup parallel slalom event in the United States. Taking place on February 14, 2020 in Vernon, New Jersey, the NorAm Cup will offer this new format with head-to-head, knockout competition featuring more than 60 male and 60 female athletes competing for $75,000, the largest prize offering yet. It will be an exciting and engaging event for spectators, featuring multiple world class athletes from North America and beyond, in an elimination-style race to the finish.

The NorAm Cup is the second-highest level of ski racing in North America, and serves to prepare athletes for the FIS World Cup, the highest level of alpine skiing competition. Parallel slalom is a relatively new format to the NorAm circuit, first included in 2018. U.S. Ski & Snowboard is promoting this format at the NorAm level in an effort to develop future World Cup parallel champions.

This will be the first NorAm ski race in held in New Jersey. This event will bring 120 athletes, along with coaches, trainers, technical support teams, and fans to the state. For many, this will be their first visit to New Jersey, and we know it will be an exciting and memorable one.

Group Bike Ride

With the snow gone, that means cycling season is here! Since there are quite a few riders out there, some club members have organized a ride for Saturday May 25th at 9am in Vernon, NJ. We expect about 25 mile ride at 14-16 mph pace with a stop at local micro brewery to recharge.

Gate Fundraiser

For races and practices at Mountain Creek, our young Mountain Creek racers use large gates that are meant for older racers, while other NJSRA mountains use regulation (smaller) gates.

Studies have shown that smaller gates for younger racers result in better ski racer development. Knowing this, Mountain Creek Ski Racing Club Dad, Simon Bachleda, has offered to do a dollar-for-dollar match to raise money to purchase gates that are legal for U10, U12 and U14 racers. Our goal is to raise $1,750. (UPDATE 1/7: We’re currently at $1,150, please help us with your donation today!)
